I VOTED!

Conversation:

Avery: Hey mommy guess what?

Mommy: What Buddy?

A: I voted at school today.

M: Oh?, Who did you vote for?

A: Some girl and Jerry Brown.

M: You did? Wow, why did you vote for Jerry Brown?

A: Well, because his name is Jerry. You know like Tom and Jerry. Oh and his last name is Brown which is a cool color.

She's So BUSTED!

We were on our way home from SCP tonight when a Lady Gaga song came on the radio, then the conversation started.

Avery: Oh man did you hear Lady Gaga is so busted.

Ryan and I looked at each other obviously very perplexed. What the hell was he saying? First of all what does he know about Lady Gaga, second of all even if she was busted how would he know that.

Daddy: Buddy, what did you say? Who's busted.
Avery: (very smirky) Oh Lady Gaga, she is so busted.
Daddy: (only after we quietly giggled to each other) What do you mean, why is she busted, what did she do?
Avery: Oh I don't know but Joshua on the bus told me that she was busted.
Daddy: Well what did she do to get busted?
Avery: I don't know but what ever it was it must have been bad because she got busted.

Narnia

Yes, the title refers to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Avery asked me this morning, day 2, if he looked like the boys from Narnia. He wears a sweater vest and until now I had not thought of it, he either looks like the boys from Narnia or Mr. Rogers. Either way we can't go wrong. So I simply told him that, Yes! He did look like the boys from Narnia and he looked very handsome.

We are in the full swing of school, just landed on our feet, homework and everything. The kids were bathed and in bed by 8pm. Daddy and I were giddy at the silence, not that we don't love to answer twenty questions AT ONCE. But the thought of just the two of us able to sit and watch a baseball game, the end of it, or anything for that matter sounded really nice. Unfortunately for daddy as is life mommy was knocked out by 8:30pm.

Summer 2010

Mama, Daddy and Grammy
What seems like a summer that just started is now over. We started the summer with Avery at golf camp, Alyssa not knowing how to swim and the count down to tia Lety moving back home.
I can't say Avery's golf game is any good but Alyssa now knows how to swim, tia Lety is employed and home.
This summer made mommy, daddy and papa a year older and the kids learned that collecting bugs in a coffee can is not as easy as it sounds. Today is the official last day of summer and it is bitter sweet. We will get back into a crazy schedule and look forward to Grammy and Papa Neil coming out in October. Here is to Fall 2010!

Golf Camp Day 1

Today Avery started golf camp and he said it was the best day of his life. This was our conversation:

Mommy: How was camp buddy?
Avery: Oh good, I have a lot of friends.
M: Really what are their names?
A:Emma, the twin boys, Jacob but he does not turn into a wolf like in twilight he is just a regular boy.

Avery's instructor Derrick relayed the conversation on the third hole. Avery saw a family of ducks and pointed at one of them and said "oh look that is the daddy duck" Emma the 7year old riding in the same cart said "that is not the daddy duck that is the mommy duck" Avery said "that is not the mommy duck, the mommy duck is at work". This mind thought probably stems from daddy spending all day on the golf course and mommy spending all day at work.

Loose Tooth

May be not super exciting news BUT! Avery has his first loose tooth. Considering his adult bottom teeth are coming in and if you knew what the dentist wanted to charge us to have his baby teeth pulled you would be excited too.

Class of 2022

Avery has finished his first year of school. He was the only student in his class to have perfect attendance that includes not being tardy. He is now a first grader and able to play on the big play ground. We are all very proud of him and I must say we celebrated with a fabulous dinner, plenty of food and cocktails. Now the summer awaits so stay tuned for the upcoming fabulous adventures.

The students sang three celebration songs with choreography.

Crazy Summer!

With less than a week left in the school year Avery and Alyssa are super excited. Not to mention mommy and daddy too. What to expect this Summer: Tia Lety moving back from Virginia, Grammy visiting from Colorado, golf camp for Avery(Thank you Minnie), Hopefully join nina for some summer school in Long Beach, lot's of pool time(maybe they will learn to swim this summer), a great Fourth of July block party, daddy's 30th b-day oh and papas too, not 30th though. Avery refers to papa as old, poor papa. With all this activity I am already tired and ready for Avery to be a First grader!
But! Before all of this Avery will have his Kindergarten breakfast on Thursday and ceremony(right of passage on to the Big Swings) on Friday at 10am.

Ryan had the kids a couple of days last week before his back went out, again, and took them to the park. Being the good daddy he is he took them not just to one but to all three in the community.

Student of the Month

Yes, on the last month of the school year the Student of the Month goes to Avery! I must say this is a very proud moment in our lives as parents considering where Avery started the school year. And for those of you who are unaware it was not a very good time in his academic career.I had to consider if I had one to many cocktails when I was pregnant and on vacation in Florida? Just kidding I knew when to stop.
So with that said Avery would like to take a couple of minutes to Thank Grammy and Papa Neil for always having words of wisdom from Colorado. Papa for hovering over his math and making him do his homework before mommy and daddy get home(even though we might have to do it again). Baby Alyssa for trying to not make noise when Avery is doing homework. Mama for sending sopa (brain food) with papa. Nina for sending packets of her Kindergarten class to double up on homework and keep him a step ahead of the game. Last but not least mommy and daddy for studying, reviewing, reading (the stupid little puppy) and doing homework after a long day of work.

Dentist

Here is Avery all smiles at the dentist. I am not proud to say but yes he has a couple of cavities. But I am not a parent to harp on things like cavities. Please, I will not even start on what my mouth looked like when I was younger and that was before the braces. Oh, and daddy just made me aware of some contraption that he had put in his mouth and the ten teeth he had pulled out. Poor kid never had a chance. All that said, Avery was a perfect patient and since his visit has been very diligent with his flossing, brushing and making sure that he does not have sugary snacks. Why? Because the dentist said it was bad for his teeth. Thanks Doc!

Baby Teeth

This is Avery roughly 12+ mths old as you can see his two bottom teeth were coming in. Avery still has a full mouth of teeth. He is 6 years old and has not lost one tooth and from the looks of things his teeth do not want to come out. I even bought apples this week hoping they would loosen something up, no such luck. What I did find today as Avery and I waited for the school bus and he yawned was an adult tooth popping out of his gums. So we have a dentist appointment on Tuesday to see if he will have to have his front teeth pulled out. Stay tuned.

What did the childrens week consist of. Considering it was Spring Break I can tell you what they did not do. Sleep.

Perfect Attendance!

Avery received the Perfect Attendance Award for the month of March. This is a family picture to celebrate his success because we have earned it as much as Avery has. Papa should be in this picture too, many mornings it's not mommy or daddy who is waking up at 6am to get him ready and make him breakfast. Thanks Papa! Oh, and this is not just getting to school every day it is being there on time too.

Last week I slept in and Avery missed the bus. I went down stairs and found him awake it was 7:30 and the bus picks him up at 7am. Poor little guy I don't think he has ever gotten ready so quick. But he did and pajamas and all (on my part) he got to school on time. When we got to school Avery said can you watch me before I go into class. Of course I stood there and waited only to over hear Avery having a conversation with one of his bus buddies and with out being asked he says, Yeah I was late because my mom did'nt wake up. Thanks Buddy!

How Do You Answer?

This is what our dinner conversation consisted of tonight. Let me start off by saying that I thought I was being slick because the kids were being utterly out of control tonight. With that thought I said: HEY! Cut it OUT! Don't you know that the Easter Bunny and Santa are friends and if you guys are being bad, well they talk.

Shortly after that comment we sat down to have dinner and this is what the dinner conversation consisted of.

Avery: Daddy, who's inside the Easter Bunny?
Daddy: What do you mean?
Avery: Well, I just want to know who is inside the Easter Bunny? Is it a man a girl? Who?
Daddy:......
He just sat there and did not comment with hopes that the dinner conversation would change luckily it did.

Avery's First Kiss

Avery and Kathy on the bus on the way home from Centennial Farm

This is Avery and Kathy (which he pronounces Kafy). I think we have all suspected that since Maria Tapia is no longer in Avery's class and he is now an A.M. kid and a bus kid that some one else had perked his interest. It all started when Avery was adamant that he, every morning, take a granola bar or Dora fruit snacks to Kathy.

Well we were right. Avery approached Ryan today and told him he had a secret that he couldn't tell mommy.

Avery: You can't tell mommy, but Kafy kissed me today because she is my friend.

Daddy:What?

Avery smiled and I said "What I heard you can't tell mommy you better tell me. " and he did. And then I said " How show me on Daddy!?@*" He approached Ryan gave him a hug and a kiss on his chin.

I don't really have any thoughts on this right now but as soon as I do I will let you all know.

Salon Alyssa

I tried once a while back to polish Alyssa's toe nails, well Ryan had a fit. We quickly had to take the polish off. So this time around we asked daddy first. We figured he would say yes seeing as he was preoccupied with his new wii game, which he needed to entertain himself in between his many bathroom breaks, we are still waiting painfully for his stones to pass.
